Hypnotherapy, also known as hypnosis, is a powerful technique in mind-body medicine that induces a heightened state of concentration and focused attention. With the guidance of a trained and certified hypnotherapist, individuals can access a deep level of relaxation and openness to beneficial suggestions, fostering positive changes in perceptions, sensations, emotions, memories, thoughts, and behaviors.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of profound relaxation and concentration, facilitating a unique connection
between the mind and body. Through verbal cues, repetition, and imagery, a skilled
hypnotherapist guides individuals into this deeply focused state, allowing them to transcend
ordinary distractions and become more receptive to finding inner solutions for improving
mental and physical health.
During hypnosis, the conscious mind is quieted, permitting access to the subconscious mind -
the part responsible for thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, sensations, emotions, memories, and
behaviors. This heightened state of awareness opens the door to effecting positive changes by
discovering and healing unconscious thought patterns that may be driving current behavior.
How Does Hypnosis Work?
While the exact mechanisms underlying hypnosis remain not fully understood, researchers and
practitioners believe that this therapeutic technique operates through several key components:
 Deep Relaxation: Hypnosis induces a state of profound relaxation, which lowers stress
and anxiety levels. This tranquility creates an ideal environment for the mind to become
more responsive to positive changes to the subconscious mind.
 Heightened Concentration: Under hypnosis, an individual's focus and concentration are
intensified, enabling them to tune out distractions and heighten their receptivity to
therapeutic guidance.
 Accessing the Subconscious: The subconscious mind, which is typically shielded from
conscious awareness, becomes more accessible during hypnosis. This heightened access
allows individuals to explore and address deeply ingrained thoughts and behaviors that
might be limiting their well-being.
 Solution Focused Reset: Once the subconscious mind is receptive, the hypnotherapist
can help clients find and replace unwanted patterns, lessening the intensity of past
memories. Through techniques like free-flowing hypnosis or guided imagery, individuals
can create new, healthier habits and responses to various triggers.

Benefits of Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy can offer a myriad of benefits, supporting individuals in their quest for improved
mental, physical and spiritual well-being:
 Stress Reduction: By inducing deep relaxation, hypnotherapy can alleviate stress and its
related symptoms, promoting a sense of calm and tranquility.
 Connection to Inner Wisdom: During hypnosis, individuals may access a wellspring of
inner wisdom and intuition that lies beyond the everyday conscious mind. This
connection can guide them towards making choices aligned with their higher purpose.
 Pain Management: Hypnosis has been shown to aid in managing chronic pain by
altering perceptions of discomfort and increasing tolerance levels.
 Enhanced Mindfulness: Hypnotherapy can deepen mindfulness practices, helping
individuals remain present and connected to the essence of each moment. This
heightened awareness enhances their capacity for conscious living and spiritual
development.
 Overcoming Phobias: Through guided exposure, hypnotherapy can help individuals
confront and overcome fears and phobias.
 Addressing Trauma in the Body: Trauma can often manifest physically, leading to
symptoms such as tension, pain, or somatic disorders. Hypnotherapy can help
individuals focus on these bodily sensations, identify their connection to past traumas,
and release the tension or discomfort associated with them.
 Releasing Emotional Charge: For those who are working through family of origin
challenges or traumatic memories, hypnotherapy can help clients gently release and
process emotions, thereby reducing the emotional charge associated with past events.

Osteopathic practitioners treat a wide variety of health problems throughout the whole body including the musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous and visceral system. They do not just treat the symptoms or areas of complaint: they treat the individual as a whole functional unit.

Some of the most common complaints that osteopaths are able to help with are:
neck and back pain, sports injuries, headaches, whiplash, postural problems, occupational injuries, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, arthritis, knee and foot pain, pain during pregnancy and post partum care.

One of the goals of osteopathy is to bring the body to equilibrium. For athletes, this means preventing overloading and becoming injured. For non athletes, this means feeling better by not accumulating tension and poor posture that could result in other problems, like a chain reaction.

Seeing an Osteopathic Practitioner does not require you to be injured since it is beneficial to have your posture assessed to assure that the body is in proper equilibrium.

Phoenix is passionate about providing caring and effective treatments that get you results.

She has worked effectively with hundreds of patients to help them achieve pain relief, manage chronic pain and recover from injuries. She has used acupuncture and East Asian Medicine to help patients achieve health goals such as improved sleep and better digestion, increase energy, healthy pregnancies and menopause transition. With the onset of COVID her practice expanded to support mental health issues including anxiety, grief, and depression. Additionally, she has undertaken specialty training to treat women’s hormonal health, vision and eye conditions and neurological conditions, with a special interest in MS and Parkinson’s disease.

When a back injury in her 20’s that left her experiencing chronic low back pain, Phoenix worked with practitioners in a wide variety of health care modalities to alleviate the pain and regain full function. She became fascinated with the workings of the body and different approaches to health and wellness from seemingly different angles. She left her engineering work and began doing hands on body work studying and incorporating a variety of treatment styles. Initially her work was musculoskeletal focused, learning trigger point therapy and myofascial release. As she honed these manual skills her focus became more somatic based, including Feldenkrais and the Alexander Technique. As her skills deepened, her focus did as well, moving towards energy work, studying Shiatsu, Reiki, TaiChi/QiGing. Chinese medicine was the logical next step as it sees all these layers as inseparably integrated. With this background she completed her diploma in acupuncture with high honours from Pacific Rim college in 2018. Through this progression she looks at the body holistically, understanding treatment approaches from many different angles. She incorporates this holistic approach to tailor effective treatments for many different health concerns.

Since beginning her acupuncture practice, she has taken specialized training in auricular medicine which she has used to support patients with hormonal imbalances, neurological conditions and pain.

Meg is a Registered Acupuncturist who brings an integrative approach to treatments from a collective of educational experiences.

Her intrigue in movement rehabilitation developed early, and she received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree from the University of the Fraser Valley. She continued to explore working as a Registered Kinesiologist and one-on-one with neurodivergent youth while achieving her Diploma in Applied Holistic Nutrition from IHN in Vancouver. A fascination with the links between disharmony and the body’s adaptations to food led her to work as a Holistic Nutritionist and personal cook for the following three years.

During this time Meg had been receiving acupuncture treatments for a snowboarding injury, and her interest and love for Traditional Chinese Medicine began to grow exponentially. Not only was it decreasing pain and restoring mobility, but addressed emotional imbalances as well. This presented a beautiful and harmonized network between the two. The trajectory of how she could help her community felt clear, and Meg moved to Vancouver Island where she would receive a Diploma in Acupuncture from Pacific Rim College.

Meg is continuously eager to connect with those who are interested in treatments that are a unique blend of the teachings she has gathered. She understands that it is a privilege to share this borrowed knowledge, as well as practice on the unceded and traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, and hopes that all who are curious may be given the opportunity to experience an avenue of healing that feels true to them. Modalities Meg may use in treatment are cupping, needling, Tuī ná (Chinese massage), Guā shā, electro-stimulation, and diet therapy.

Outside of the clinic, you’ll find this forest seeker wandering hiking trails, experimenting with new recipes, making playlists for any occasion, snowboarding, and surfing when she is able!

Nicolle is no longer accepting ICBC patients

Nicolle has been practicing massage therapy since 2016.

She first gained experience at a popular spa in downtown Victoria, then worked as a mobile therapist in the lower Vancouver Island area on and off all the while growing a very busy practice at a multidisciplinary clinic for 5 years before joining the team here at Aurora Health and Wellness in 2022.

She has taken a wide range of continuing education courses. From Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian massage) to diving into the world of pain science and understanding its relations to acute injuries and chronic pain conditions.

From her experience at the spa, she was able to perfect her rhythmic flow while combining it with a therapeutic/athletic type approach to create a well rounded and rejuvenating treatment.

Nicolle tends to favor moderate to deeper pressure with active techniques while including the clients natural and functional body patterns, yet always working within the client’s comfort zone. She is also able to accommodate the lightest of touch for a more relaxing or gentle type of treatment if the client prefers.

The techniques she typically uses are General Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy, contract/relax type stretching, tapotement (rhythmically tapping with different parts of the hand), joint mobilization, assisted breath work, along with deep tissue massage for clients in need of this type of pressure and release.

She has found that her style of treatment has a positive effect on her clients physical concerns, treatment goals and mental wellbeing by establishing an all around trust, limiting guarding, enabling tissue release to further decrease the perception of physical pain.

Nicolle is described as pleasantly professional, a nurturer by nature and meticulous with a curious mind while providing a space where all people can feel relaxed and accommodated.

In her spare time, she can be found raising her growing family, cheering her kids on and enjoying the many wonders that our beautiful planet has to offer.

Nicole is not currently taking any new ICBC patients

Nicole graduated from Camosun College with her Massage Therapy Diploma in 2022. Through her time in school she found an interest in pain science and the relationship between chronic pain and stress within the mind and body. She’s focused on creating a patient-centered environment and wants to ensure each patient feels heard.

Growing up Nicole watched her mother struggle with chronic pain from an autoimmune condition and one of the ways she found relief was through massage. This sparked Nicole’s interest in massage and the importance of pain management.

Nicole has a relaxing approach to treatment and uses techniques such as general swedish massage, myofascial release, and trigger point release.

When Nicole’s not practicing massage she’s on the side lines of her children’s sports or reading a book.
